Photo or no photo?
It changes by market, and getting it wrong is a small but real cost.

Common and expected: much of the Gulf, parts of Europe, Latin America. A professional headshot is normal.
Actively discouraged: UK, US, Canada, Ireland — many employers strip photos to avoid bias claims.
When in doubt, match the company's own careers page.
If you include one
Plain background, shoulders up, neutral expression, current. Skip the wedding crop and the sunglasses.
One professional shot costs little and lasts years.
